In February 2019, Open Arms Outreach Organization Inc. carried out a major community project — we drilled and installed a free borehole in Ogbako Amato, a village in Okehi 2, Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Before this intervention, the people of Ogbako Amato had serious challenges getting clean water. Most of them relied on dirty streams and hand-dug wells, which often caused sickness, especially among children. Seeing this need, we stepped in to help.

Why We Did It:
- To provide clean and safe water for the people of the community.
- To help prevent waterborne diseases like typhoid and cholera.
- To reduce the stress of fetching water, especially for women and children.
- To improve hygiene and sanitation in the area.
How It Happened:
- Our team first visited the village to understand the people’s needs and choose a good location for the borehole.
- We then worked with drilling experts to install a deep borehole fitted with a strong water pump.
- Local youth also supported the work, and we made sure the community was involved every step of the way.
- When the project was completed, we held a small commissioning event where the borehole was officially handed over to the people.
The Result:
Since the borehole was installed, life has improved in Ogbako Amato:
- The villagers now have easy access to clean water every day.
- Cases of water-related sickness have reduced.
- Women and children no longer walk long distances to fetch water.
- The community is very happy and now has a reliable water source they can call their own.
Our Joy:
At Open Arms Outreach Organization Inc., we believe that water is life. This project is just one of the ways we show love and support to rural communities that are often forgotten.
We thank everyone who supported us and look forward to doing more life-changing projects in the future.
