In line with our mission to empower the underprivileged and build sustainable communities, Open Arms Outreach Organization Inc. carried out a Free Skill Acquisition Programme in Mgbala-Agwa Clan, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State.
This life-changing project impacted hundreds of youths, widows, and unemployed individuals from the community and surrounding areas. The programme was designed to help participants learn practical skills, become self-reliant, and break free from the cycle of poverty.
Why We Did It:
Many youths and widows in rural communities like Mgbala-Agwa face limited opportunities for income generation due to lack of skills, education, or access to training. Our goal was simple:
- To equip people with practical skills they can use to earn a living.
- To reduce unemployment and poverty in the community.
- To give widows and vulnerable women a fresh start through empowerment.
- To create a ripple effect of economic self-reliance and dignity.

Skills Covered:
Participants received hands-on training in a variety of income-generating skills such as:
- Paint Making/Production
- Shoe, Bag and Hat Making
- Phone Repair
- Catering & Small Chops
- Bead Making & Crafts
- Soap & Detergent Production
- Barbing etc
Impact Highlights:
- Over 300 individuals benefited directly from the training.
- Many participants have since started small businesses or joined cooperatives.
- Widows who felt forgotten found new confidence and a path to independence.
- The programme also helped to reduce youth restiveness and idleness in the area.
Community Response:
The response was overwhelming. Families, local leaders, and religious groups all came out in support of the initiative. Many testified that this was the first time such a large-scale empowerment programme reached their area without cost.
Our Promise:
At Open Arms Outreach Organization Inc., we strongly believe that empowerment is more powerful than charity. This project is proof that when people are given the right tools and knowledge, they can build a better future for themselves and their families.
We remain committed to touching lives across Africa, one community at a time.
